Star Gazing on the North York Moors

Can you guess what the North York Moors have in common with Mont Megantic in Quebec, Canada, Aoraki Mackenzie in New Zealand, the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Southern Namibia, and Natural Bridges National Monument in the US state of Utah?

Well, all of these unique regions are listed by the travel writers at the Daily Telegraph as the best places for star gazing on Planet Earth.

Moon Gazing Hare

Find out about the Moon-gazing Hare in a Visit to Rosedale.

According to the Telegraph "As well as stunning night skies, the North York Moors boast historic market towns such as Helmsley and Pickering, plus appealing coastal spots, including Scarborough and Whitby".

Something we'd certainly back-up from Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale Abbey in the geographic centre of the North York Moors National Park.

Because of the lack of artificial ambient light here in the Dale, the night sky above Rosedale Abbey certainly makes for some great star-gazing.

And the local folk-lore tail of the "Moon-gazing Hare" only adds to the cosmic mystery!

Local astronomer's from the Scarborough and Ryedale Astronomical Society's suggest that Dalby Forest, just a few miles from Rosedale is the best place within the park for viewing the night sky above.
