6 Rosedale Abbey

Rosedale in the North York Moors National Park makes walkers welcome.
Hikers will find that the walk from Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey to Aine Howe Cross (sometimes called "Ana Cross") via Lastingham is a straightforward but beautifully scenic walk using farm tracks, bridleways and moorland paths. You can find PDF guide by reading further.
The original ancient Anglo Saxon cross can be visited at the Church in Lastingham.
Ana Cross is one of the Tallest on the North York Moors.
Just make sure to pick a clear day to avoid problems with navigation across the high Aine Howe and Askew Rigg.
The distance is just a pinch over eight miles and can be comfortably completed in a single morning or afternoon.
If you stop-off in the village of Lastingham (at about the half-way point), you'll find a pub (The Blacksmiths) or the Hawbny Tearooms for refreshments.
As with all moorland walks in the North York Moors, it may be boggy in one or two places; and there are steep sections, and one beck to cross.
The OS Explorer OL27 North York Moors (East) is the best map available showing the route.
