Where is the Abbey in Rosedale?

Visitors to Rosedale Abbey often ask "where is the Abbey"?

Unlike the majestic ruins at Fountains Abbey or Rievaulx Abbey; very little remains of the ancient Priory that used to grace Rosedale.

But the remains of the Priory are dispersed throughout the village; having been "recycled" in local buildings by the Victorians.

There are identifiable fragments in several local buildings.

See if you can find the following:

+  13th Century staircase in the Churchyard to the west of the Church door.

+  14th Century tracery window built into the the outer wal of the sacristy of the current Church.

+  Window columns used as gate posts in the lane by the Milburn Arms.

+  Carved stone over the North door of the village Church. It reads Omnia Vanitas ("All is Vanity").

+  Sun-dial on a garden shed in the Churchyard.
