Listed below are five fantastic locations which are worth seeing over a weekend break in the North York Moors National Park.

All the locations offer the chance of a good walk, and all are readily accessible from a base at Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale Abbey.

Firstly, and just 20-minutes away by car is the NYM National Park's Moors Centre at Danby.

This is an information centre for the park, with 13 acres of woods and meadow walks alongside the River Esk.

For a more "hard-core" walk, you could always try the Esk Valley Walk.

The North York Moors Offer Numerous Opportunities for a Good Weekend Walk.

This is a 33-mile footpath starting on Farndale Moor above Rosedale Abbey and reaching Whitby on the coast.

The footpath follows the route of the Esk Valley Railway and the Esk River to the North Sea.

Our third recommendation is the Ravenscar Geological Trail which offers two walks of two-and-a-half miles or four-and-a-half miles following the course of the Peak Fault, past the disused alum mines.

Ravenscar is to the South of Robin Hood's Bay and about a 40-minute drive from Rosella Cottage.

The area is a famous source of marine fossils.

Our fourth recommendation is a trip out to Helmsley and the near-by Rievaulx Abbey and Terrace.

Rievaulx Abbey and Terrace  is an extremely popular medieval-period ruined abbey which sits in beautiful woodland and gardens with numerous walks.

Our final suggestion for a good weekend walk is Hayburn Wyke in Staintondale which offers a lovely walking path alongside Thorny Beck.

The path takes in a series of waterfalls, through a nature reserve and on to the North Sea.

We recommend the Explorer Ordnance Survey Maps as being best for walkers exploring the five routes above - EX027 North York Moors - Eastern Area and EX026 North York Moors - Western Area.
