Eskbek House Restaurant, Sandsend

On our own family holidays to Rosedale Abbey, we love the scenic drive over the beautiful North York Moors to the lovely seaside village of Sandsend.

Generations of Marshall-family  children have enjoyed playing in the beck and on the sands at Sandsend.

And another great reason to visit Sandsend for Romatic holiday-makers from Rosella Cottage is for dinner at the fabulous Estbek House Restaurant.

Estbek offers an award winning restaurant in a simply gorgeous Georgian-period property; built around 1750.

Being by the seaside, and only four-miles from Whitby; you'd expect Estbek House to have a great focus on fresh local seafood; and they are the proud holders of two coveted AA rosettes.

The meals are always delicious!

One of the things we really like about a visit to Eskbek House - besides the seafood - is the open plan kitchen which allows us to see owner Tim and Chef James carefully preparing dishes to order.

And whether we order the speciality seafoods, catch of the day, or a local moorland meat dish, we've always been impressed!

Also, with the kitchen being open plan, the friendly team are always on-hand to help discuss dining options.

You'll find that the menu at Eskbek House changes with the seasons; but listed below is a selection of our favourites.

Moules Mariniere - highly Recommended!

Sandsend Chowder.

Pan Fried Sardines with garlic and herbs.

Pan-seared Shetland King Scallops with shards of crisp parma ham and pea puree.

Garlic Crevettes with yoghurt and cucumber dressing.

Kipper Pate, using only the best of Fortunes Whitby kippers and served with salad garnish and toasted Brioche.

Whole local lobster Thermidor - speaks for itself really!

Estbek's Seafood Pie.

Eskbek House also serves  devilish desserts, great  coffee, and a lovely cheeseboard with Blue Wensledale and Mature Cheddar, a selection of water biscuits, salted English butter, and homemade Fig Chutney.

Starters range from around £7.75 with main course starting at £19.95.

Estbek House is located at East Row, Sandsend, Whitby, North Yorkshire.

For GPS, the postcode is YO21 3SUT; and Sandsend is just a 30-minute drive across the moors from Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale.
