Three organizations have joined forces to submit an application to the World’s Professional Cycling Governing Body (UCI) for a new three-day professional bike race to take place in Yorkshire in 2015.
The "Welcome to Yorkshire" tourism agency, Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) - organizers of the Tour de France - and British Cycling are hoping that the "Tour of Yorkshire” will be a three-day race on the professional circuit.
Coming Soon? Tour of Yorkshire in May 2015.
If approved by the UCI, the inaugural Tour of Yorkshire will start on Friday 1st May and run over Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May 2015.
The new Tour of Yorkshire will be classified as a 2.1 UCI Europe Tour event, guaranteeing the participation of the world’s leading Professional Cycling Teams.
Welcome to Yorkshire are already calling the event “a breathtaking new race in a region made for cycling”.
And Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s Director of Cycle Sport said: “We will await the decision of the UCI but I am confident that ASO and Welcome to Yorkshire will create a world-class event attractive to the best teams in cycling.
The race is being billed as taking-in the entire County of Yorkshire, including North Yorkshire, Ryedale, the North York Moors, and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast.
Rosella Cottage in the village of Rosedale Abbey is smack-bang in the centre of the North York Moors National Park and only a short drive from both the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Coast.
Our village also boasts "Chimney Bank" which is recognized as the steepest public road in England and nick-named "the chain-breaker" by regular cyclists.
Rosedale's own Chimney Bank Might be on the Race Route in 2015.
So, whilst the new race route is not yet on record, we're well-placed to offer easy access to the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, and Coast.
We do still have availability for the week of Friday 1st May to Friday 8th May 2015 (7 nights, £650).
Monday 4th May is also a UK public holiday.
But you might need to be quick as accommodation across the North York Moors is likely to sell-out rapidly once the new race and route is officially announced.
