October in North Yorkshire

The carpets of crunchy leaves are starting to collect beneath the trees along the Avenue that leads visitors into Rosedale Abbey.

The darker misty mornings and colder weather might also be coming; but there’s no doubt that it’s a beautiful time of year on the North York Moors.

And Autumn is a fun-packed season; there is still plenty of time left in October to get outside before the clocks change and the long dark winter nights roll-in.

Here are a few ideas to whet your appetite for a week or weekend break on the North York Moors this October.

English Heritage on the Moors

Try Whitby Abbey, Helmsley Castle or Rievaulx Abbey for the best in local history and great Yorkshire Autumn scenery.

Whitby Ghost Walk

Take a walk through the ghoulish history of the old-town in Whitby. Very atmospheric on a misty Autumn evening.

Autumn Steam Weekend

On Friday 10th to Sunday 12th October, the North York Moors Railway (NYMR) in Pickering - just 10-miles from Rosella Cottage hosts its annual "Railway in Wartime" re-enactment.

The Autumn event allows history-buffs and railway enthusiasts to relive the amazing spirit of the British people in World War II.
