Half an hour from Rosedale Abbey

There are lots of sights to see and places to visit within a half-hour drive or cycle ride of Rosedale Abbey.

Listed below are ten of our favourites that you might like to try:

+  You might be lucky and catch Vashti Bunyan on Saturday 11th October at ‘England’s Tiniest Major Venue’. The Bandroom in Farndale. Just 15-minutes by car from Rosella Cottage.

+  10-minutes by car or only half an hour by bike - Lastingham Church and its thousand year old Crypt. Have an ale right across the road in the cosy Blacksmiths; or take tea in the rose garden at Lastingham Grange.

+  For the stately home experience visit Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, or Duncombe Park - all just half-an-hour away.

+  Pop over to Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole (just 30-minutes by bike or ten minutes in the car) to see their fine collection of North York Moors buildings - demolished and rebuilt on site. It's like a village within a village.

+  Go over the top of the moor to Botton Village for fresh bread, locally made cheeses, and other organic goods in Danby Dale.

+  Travel the coast road from Staithes, to Runswick Bay, Sandsend and into Whitby for a great day out on the Yorkshire Hertiage Coast.

+  Take the nicest drive across the moors to Egton Bridge and onwards to Whitby for fish 'n' chips. You can see the sea from miles away, look out for the view.

+  Visit our local town - Pickering - for a day out on the North York Moors steam train or a visit to the Norman-era Castle. You'll also find many fine tea shops, restaurants, and award winning fish and chips!

+  Stay in Rosedale and hike the 10-mile abandoned cinder-track railway line. You'll have the best views of the Moors and some great Victorian industrial heritage to see.

+  Helmsley is the place for small independent shops, a fine English Hertiage castle ruin and walled garden and it’s but a stone’s throw from Riveaulx Abbey.
