Stage 1 Moor to Sea Cycle Route

cycling small

The "Moor to Sea" cycle trail is a 150-mile network of paths that links Easby, below Roseberry Topping on the edge of the Moors, to Scarborough on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast.

The ride across the North York Moors is the National Parks' premier cycling attraction.

The Moor to Sea route can be ridden during a weeks' holiday at one time; or cyclists can complete the tour as a series of day rides over an extended period of time.

Section one of the route starts from the hamlet of Easby; about two-miles from Great Ayron.

It climbs the long challenging hill at Ingleby Incline and then meanders gently for around 19-miles across the high North York Moors plateau before dropping down into the pretty village of Rosedale Abbey.

For most of the moorland route, the path follows the long-abandoned cinder-track railway that was built by Victorian Engineers to ship Iron-ore from the mines in Rosedale to the Foundaries in Cleveland.

We think that the 19-mile section of the ride from Easby to Rosedale Abbey offers the most scenic part of the whole Moors to Sea ride.

You'll get spectacular views in all directions along the route which is largely traffic-free.

Rosella Cottage for Cyclists

Rosella Cottage makes an ideal base for anyone wanting to cycle stage one from Easby to Rosedale and then stage two from Rosedale to Dalby Forest.

We are centrally-located in the village with three historic Inns within close walking distance; two cafes and the village shop; and the Gilles-Jones Glass Studio and gallery.
