Indoor Activities in Whitby

Whitby is a holiday town for all seasons.

Long gone are the days when many of the towns businesses and visitor attactions would close-up shop at the end of October and not re-open til March.

Nowadays, most attractions are open year round to cater to the many visitors who still make Whitby a holiday 'hotspot' - even when the weather is far from perfect!

So today, I'm listing six of the best indoor activities that you can still enjoy; even if the weather is unkind in February

Captain Cook Memorial Museum

The Captain Cook Memorial Museum has a changing range of exhibitions and art shows; so there's every chance you'll see something new each time you visit Whitby.

And the main museum exhibition offers a fantastic insight into the life of the Great Man himself during his time in Whitby.

Located on Grape Lane - on the East-side of town to the right of the Old Swing Bridge.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers a fabulous moving 'indoor' activity; with great scenery rolling-past the window as you wind your way up the Esk Valley and across the North York Moors National Park.

Long considered one of Yorkshire's premier tourist attractions; the railway has featured in the Harry Potter movies and the Heartbeat TV series.

Simple Amusements

Fun City and Funlands Amusements are open all year round.

You'll find then alongside the harbour and they are a good place to take the kids for some oldtime harmless fun.

And what else can you do with all those 2p coins?

The Dracula Experience

A must see for teenagers or folks with an interest in Bram Stoker’s famous Gothic novel.

The tour tells the story of Dracula and the connections to Whitby.

Live actors are used to create the scare factor inside alongside scary special effects.

You'll find the Dracula Experience on the Westside of the Harbour below the Old Swing Bridge.

Whitby Museum & Pannet Art Gallery

I've probably visited the Whitby Museum around 50 times in my life!

But I can still happily while-away a good couple of hours looking around the interesting exhibits.

I suggest you make sure to have plenty of time on your hands if this is your first visit.

Located towards the top of St Hilda's Terrace (straight up from Flowergate).

For the Little Kids

Smaller children will love the Mini Monsterz indoor play area.

There's a rock climbing wall, laser tag, and heaps of games and activities to keep the kids entertained.

Based at Esk Leisure, The Carrs, Ruswarp, Whitby, YO21 1RL.

Telephone (01947) 821106 for opening times and information.
